Australia overcame a scintillating outing by batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who hit 175 off 141 balls, to post a win by three runs with two balls remaining in the thrilling fifth one-day international Thursday.
Tendulkar, who became the first batsman ever to breach the 17,000-runs mark in one-day cricket, pounded 19 fours and four sixes for his 45th one-day century, but his effort was not enough to lift the Indian side.
The Indian squad was eventually bowled out of 347 in 49.4 overs as it chased Australian's whooping 350-4 in 50 overs.
The decisive point of the match came when Tendulkar was dismissed in the 48th over as Australia took a 3-2 lead in the seven-match series.
Debutant fast bowler Clint McKay picked up three wickets for 59, while Shane Watson had three for 47.
Shaun Marsh accounted for 112 out of Australia's total of 350. Watson scored 93 in an opening stand of 145.
